Üniversite Öğretim Elemanları Dayanışma Derneği (ÜNDER) organised a training course "Diversity in the Classroom: Teaching Inclusion for Overcoming Prejudices and Discrimination" in Istanbul, Turkey between 29 June and 3 July, 2021. The course aimed to provide teachers and education staff working in a diverse environment with tools, strategies and best practice to address and promote diversity and tolerance in the classroom for overcoming prejudices and discrimination. It helped teachers to develop their cultural awareness while giving them the tools and new approaches to teach to a multicultural and ethnically diverse group of students.
The training course was also attended by 5 teachers from Vocational School "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" from Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria in the framework of their project "Multicultural School: Opportunities and Challenges". In addition, ÜNDER organised two study visits in schools in Istanbul – Fatih Sultan Mehmet Uluslararası Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi and Sultan Fatih Koleji. There the participants in the course had the possibility to exchange experience with their Turkish colleagues and discuss future ideas for partnership.
